Winterfest Review “Standing Out In The Crowd, Rob Anthony”

Winterfest brought the crowds today to the Broadway District in Green Bay, but the man standing out in the crowd was Rob Anthony.  A native of Wisconsin, Anthony brings a sweet, raspy tenor voice wrapped in a blanket of intoxicating allure to every show he does. But allure is not the only thing he has going for him.

More than talent

What singles out Rob Anthony from a musical standpoint is his ability to write relatable lyrics within the musical structure of great acoustic guitar. A local singer-songwriter who believes in giving back to the community, he writes from the heart. His music transcends the typical fun and games to really hit home on many issues ranging from the personal to the national. And those lyrics have given him opportunities to connect with people across the nation. The song “Down the Road” is one of many compositions in his collection that has touched the lives of a specific group and in turn gives them a bond on a musical level.

Anthony’s songs however, reach out to everyone. “When You’re Feeling Blue” comes from his fourth CD While the World Sleeps and injects the listener with his sweet vocals and incredible acoustical work while also giving a solid connection through lyrics. Although songs about fun and games are necessary to relieve stress, lyrics that hit the heart go beyond anything superficial.

Balancing it all

One of the many things audience members experience at a Rob Anthony concert is a great combination of entertaining music and intimacy. Anthony is one of the few locals that can draw you into a world of acoustic bliss while also giving you what you need. If music were a medicine, his would be the right prescriptive blend to satisfy your harmonic appetite.  Acoustic covers mingle between medicinal originals giving a solid gig of entertainment and down-to-earth feel.

Throughout his performance, Anthony engages the audience in discussion, commentary and music; a successful balance of sorts that sets him apart from those in the musical world who can only relate to the music. The bottom line, a good performer is not just one with outstanding talent, but one who can reach out to his fans on an intimate and heartfelt level. Anthony does this with ease.

From awards to community involvement

Rob’s talent has graced many a stage and has been rewarded through the WAMI. Voted three times as the People’s Choice Artist in Northeast Wisconsin 2005, 2006, and 2010 as well as Acoustic Artist of the Year in 2004 and 2005, his focus is not just on gaining awards.  Anthony regularly gives back to the community.

Some of his philanthropic pursuits have included raising money for the American Red Cross and Special Olympics as well as taking time to visit with middle school, high school and college level students to speak about his own entrepreneur experience.

Talent, down-to-earth connection, and the desire to contribute are all of the things that give Rob Anthony the ability to stand out in the crowd. And for those who experienced his talents today at Winterfest; they came away a little bit warmer.
